Comparing 9, The Short, and 9, The Full-Length Movie

Image
Short film:   The shirt film ‘9’ was visually striking story set in a post-apocalyptic world. This is developed by the strong focus on the visual storytelling, atmosphere and sound design. The lack of dialogue and the drastic plot make the concept open to interpretation. The director, Shane Acker’s experimental directorial styles emphasis on the mood rather than the traditional character development. This was done by the texture and lighting which added to the mysterious tone. The animation is detailed which makes their world feel eerie and mysterious. •  Full-length film:  The full-length expands on the world and characters, adding backstory, dialogue and a more traditional narrative structure. While the animation remained a classic, the Hollywood-style conventions. This included a clear hero’s journey and resolution, making it more accessible but took away what made the film truly unique, Th e characters gain distinct personalities, and the emotion stakes a...

So it's a Thriller...and Comedy? Maybe Action?

Image
Welcome back, Sappies, So of course we have to talk about our incredible film. I already have started the script and have a title but it's all a work in progress. First I have to tell you guys what the film's genre even is. So overall, my group and I have gone with thriller, just to really encapsulate the suspense of how a sister seeks revenge for her brother. We decided to stick with thriller instead of action, even with the way the script looks because there isn't going to be that much action to make it the whole genre and there also isn't going to be a main focus on comedy either. The comedic purposes in this film serve for relief and the action serves for entertainment, but my group and I have decided that thriller best encapsulates the whole point of the film. So, what even is thriller? Thriller is a genre in film that focuses on very heightening emotions such as suspense and the element of surprise to keep an audience on edge, or on their toes whilst also adding ...

Pitch Time!!

Image
Pitch 1: A mafia boss goes undercover as an ally to avenge the death of her brother. This pitch spoke to my group as we found it to be a serious topic that seemed interesting enough to stay engaged throughout the filming process. In the past, some of our group mates have worked in projects where this has been an issue. At times where the topic at hand is "silly" some cast members find it difficult to focus entirely and stay on task. This can be due to their immaturity and lack of experience with acting. We found this prompt intriguing, creative, and unlike anything either of us have produced before in our other media courses. This made it appealing for us all, and the better choice of our two options. Pitch 2: A secret witch pretends to fall in love with people and then turns them into legos which she collects. This pitch seemed interesting and unique to our group. However, it also posed a question of if our casting crew will be able to give the energy and vibe needed to port...

Who's New?

Image
What's new, Sappies?  Like I let you guys know in my last blog, this year I'll be working with Sabi and Rose. Unlike last year, we only have one big project for A Level, and it's another final task. The difference this time is that it won't just be an opening sequence, but instead an entire short film. Now since I've been gone and enjoying my time away from school, I haven't forgot about film. What kind of creative director would I be if I did that? So, I've refined some skills, began filming with a professional camera and learned to edit better. I mean better- not professionally, but we'll get there eventually. Now having some experience in creating short films, I'm very excited to be doing this project with people who I know will try and give it their all. I've made a few films with Sabi and her sister and I know Roselyn will fit right in. ;) While we still don't really know what kind of film we're making, we're leaning a bit toward...

Guess Who's Back?

Hey, Sappies, it's Char. Welcome back, and today, I have a little intro for you.            Now, wh ile I am more than sure that you'd love to hear of all the juicy scandals coming your way this year, let me give you a  little bit of background first.      My name is Charlize, but you can call me Char. I'm a Scorpio, but not too into all of that horoscope stuff. I love watching soccer and believe that Man City and Barca are the best teams and that Messi is the best player. I'm Peruvian from both of my parents' sides and love to embrace my culture. While my ambitions are constantly changing, I currently aspire to become a creative director. My academic success means everything to me, and so does my family. I love to bake pastries such as cakes, cookies, cinnamon rolls, muffins, pionono (a Peruvain dessert), and more. I also love to read (like, a lot). From romance to thrillers, a good book will keep me glued to ...
