Production Blog: The Basics of Editing

Hey, Sappies! What's up? Today we'll be focusing on the editing process of this beautiful beginning of a film. In order to not stress you out on the actual length of editing though, i'll be splitting this up into two blogs on two separate days. I'm not trying to stress you out more than I've already done so.

So now, we'll be getting into the basics of editing. I'm saving any sound stuff like voice over and music for the next blog since that's a bit more lengthy. In this blog we'll be talking about the editing of clips. So similar to the music video, I went over to Valentina's house since we're using her software to put this all together. We first started by exporting all the clips onto her computer and then opened Movavi to get started. We started by arranging all the clips where they were supposed to go and deciding what we wanted to keep and what we wanted to get rid of. Sabrina, Valentina, and I like to think three steps ahead and so along the way we included different shots and angles of the same scene or some other ones that added some more time. We did this in order to make sure that we had more time as opposed to less time. Although in the end, it is necessary to take away what isn't as essential or looks bad. We got all the clips together to work for the allotted time we were given and then got to editing. We wanted to decide on how long each clip should be and if there should be effects or transitions. We ended up deciding on no effects and only one transition as well as deciding to cut some clips shorter at the beginning or end or both since we just needed a fraction of what we had actually recorded. At the end we also added a sudden black screen with a fade in to the title of our movie to add some real movie effects. Then we went into another sudden black screen for the last credit. After that, the opening sequence was flawlessly smooth and in order. It was basically the script I wrote and was exactly how we had all envisioned it. Of course, throughout the editing process we called Sabrina and sent her clips so that she could help us put it all together and also be content with the finished product.

Okay, that's actually a lot. In that case, good luck on reading the next blog. See ya, Sappies.

XOXO,

    Char
